PAIA / POPIA
The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA) gives effect to the constitutional right of access to information. The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) regulates the processing of personal information and gives data subjects rights in relation to their personal information.

Requests for Access to Information
Requests for access to records held by the practice must be made in writing and must include sufficient information to identify the requester, the record requested, the right the requester wishes to exercise or protect where required, the form of access requested, and contact details for the requester.
The practice may need to verify identity, authority to act on behalf of a patient or child, and the lawful basis for access before releasing any information.
Requests Relating to Personal Information
Patients, parents, guardians or authorised persons may request access to, correction of, or information about personal information processed by the practice, subject to applicable law and professional obligations.
